Einkidu's Story
Hi my name is Einkidu and I'm waiting for my mommy and daddy at the rainbow bridge. I had a pretty good life, 19 1/2 years isn't too shabby. Taught Dad and Mom how to be parents to me, and they did a good job of it. I didn't start out with them, I started out with Mom's sister, when she was in college. She lived next door to a frat house, and I'm going to warn all you other cats out there to stay away from those places. They're not safe for cats. For awhile after Mom's sister got out of college, I lived with her, when she lived somewhere that would have cats, and then when she moved somewhere that wouldn't, my Grandparents would take me. I always liked going back to my Grandparents house, because my 'True' mother lived around there, and she would always be waiting for me. I would jump out of the car and into her arms. Life would be good. Finally, my 'True' Mommy had enough and took me to her house permanently. Life was the best. Mommy loved sunflower seeds just like me, and when she had good food like liver or grape nuts cereal, she always made me plate, too. Mommy knew that I was an ominvore, and needed lots of different types of food to be happy. The best day was when she came home with an old chair from a garage sale, and GAVE IT TO ME. Yes, that's right my own chair, to claw up and climb on, and totally destroy if I wanted to. And I did. Then she brought me another one. And Mommy put a box in a corner of the livingroom. We called it Einkidu Land. When I was in my box, I was not to be disturbed. It was my sacred place. We moved to Arizona from Michigan. Boy that was a trip! I had a cubby hole to sleep in during the day, but as the sun was going down, I would climb on Mommy's lap, and watch the big rigs go flying down the road. I wasn't scared or worried or anything, because I knew that Mommy and I together could conquer anything. OK, this is hard to admit to, but the first time that Grandma and Grandpa came to visit us in AZ, I was a little worried, that maybe it would be like when I lived with Mom's sister. So when I saw them packing their stuff to go, I ran and hid until they left. I didn't want them to make a mistake and pack me too. But after that first time, I was never worried again. When Mommy and I moved back to Michigan, Mommy met Bill, and he became my Daddy. He was so cool, the first time he came to our house, he started playing with me, (I was a very playful cat, Mommy made sure I had a lot of toys). LOL, he started playing finger wiggle with me....Mommy told him that I would scratch him and He would bleed. He didn't believe her! Couldn't he see that I kept my claws in the best of shape? Bill made the best Daddy. He grew corn for me, just like Mommy grew Catnip. He didn't mind that I slept on the bed, with them. I would follow them around the house, and go for car rides, and watch TV and play, and have the best life a cat ever have. I was loved and I loved in return. Who could ask for anything more? And you know what? Even though it's been 7 years since I left (being held in Mommy and Daddy's arms), I can see that Mommy is crying as she writes this, but I know that she is also happy because she is surrounded by my sister Sheli and brother Gil (cats), who were born the day after I passed, and my sister Korki, the 4 year old puppy. Sheli was adopted from the County Animal Shelter, and Gil and Korki were adopted at the annual 'Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo' weekend. That's where all the shelters in the area bring their dogs, cats and bunnies to find homes. I'm glad that my sisters and brother found a home with Mommy and Daddy.
