![]() Riley's Journey I got Riley when she was a year old. She had four owners prior to me. We have had a wonderful three years together. Then In October of 2008, Riley went out my second floor window while I was at work. (We think someone tried to break in.) She went missing for 3 1/2 weeks. My family, friends, and I looked everywhere, put up signs, and worried constantly. Through a miracle, Riley was found and caught by a police officer. They were able to call me from her tags. She had gone from a healthy 55 pounds to a meager 33 pounds. Her front paw was also badly mangled. I rushed to her the animal hospital where they were able to stabilize her blood pressure and get her the fluids she needed. Then I had to make the very sad decision to have her leg amputated. She is an extremely active dog who loved to run and play Frisbee. It was such a hard decision, but the bone was very badly broken and infection had settled into the open wound. Four weeks after surgery, Riley picked up her Frisbee for the first time. Slowly we got back into playing. Now 5 months later, we are back to playing every day and Riley is doing wonderfully on just three legs. She is truly a spirited and determined dog. Her journey continues to touch my heart and others and she is a very special dog!! I am so happy to have her home and safe!!!
